We are at the end of the Petrochemical Revolution. In the last 100 years, car travel is made possible by two giant industries – car makers such as Toyota and VW, and gas companies such as Shell, Exxon, Saudi Aramco that provided refined gasoline.
Recently, the mass production of Electric cars such as Tesla and Nissan Leaf has for the first time in history combined the two industries into one single entity. The in-house charging capability of electric cars meant that you can self-sustain your car by charging at home or at a charging station like Tesla Supercharger, and that gas stations will be a thing of the past.
The extinction of gasoline means we no longer have to rely on authoritarian Middle Eastern regimes like Saudi Arabia to power our energy needs. It means we no longer have to fight unnecessary wars in places like Iraq and Afghanistan to secure oil. It means we will no longer produce CO2 pollution out of our exhaust pipes. It means we can use the money we used to spend in fighting wars to improve healthcare and education, to explore science, technology and outer space. It means a healthier, smarter and better world.
Electric or gas? The vote of our generation’s energy source is in your hands, the consumers. I hope you choose the right one.
